There is a very popular new website. You can find it at godtube.com. It is just a Christian YouTube. There is nothing much else that they do that youtube does not other than that they monitor their content so that it has some sort of Christian purpose. There are a lot of positives with this. It provides a website churches can feel comfortable with for putting some of their content onto, etc. The ceo of GodTube is a student at Dallas Theological Seminary. This surprised me to find someone from Dallas who could think with today's world enough to come up with this idea. Yes that is kind of a knock on Dallas, but hey...I didn't come up with the idea. I think the idea is great, the concept is great, even though it is a knock off. Not very often does a Christian alternative match up with the original. How many churches have had a series called iLife in the last 2 years? I mean...really? Anyway, watch this video and see how he responds to the question about where the money goes. I think he dodges it, and I don't like that.

I'm interested to know why it would surprise you that this type of culturally relevant idea would not come out of Dallas. The seminary started in the 20's because L. S. Chafer was concern about the liberalism that had been infecting the churches from Europe, since the 50's, John Walvoord set the standard for biblical eschatology, since the 60's Chuck Swindoll expositional preaching, in the 70's and 80's ministries like Young Life, Walk Thru the Bible and the whole Bible church movement were founded by Dallas grads, then the impact in th 90's of radio broadcasting with people like Tony Evans, David Jeremiah, and now Chip Ingram, Andy Stanley and all over the current media Jesus talk is Darrell Bock. Where have you been?
I have to honestly say that stuff like GodTube really bothers me. It is a classic example of how the church has left mainstream society when they disagreed with it and sought to create a society of their own. My question is why cant any GodTube video be on YouTube? I know people are afraid of what they might run into when they hit search over on YoutTube, but to me that is just part of living in a sin filled world. There is a chance if you go to the mall that you will run into a flasher or a thief...but that doesn't stop us as Christians from going there right? I mean why don't we just create safe Christian malls, airports, schools (oops, we did create those)
And we wonder why we arent having any effect on REACHing the community around us. Its time to get uncomfortable people...Jesus left Heaven to come and rescue us...cant we at least leave our comfortable Christian ghetto and live in the world?

I appreciate what you are saying, but I don't think it was GodTube's intent to shelter us Christians. They are an awesome resource for me as a youth pastor. I can go there knowing that I wont have to filter through a bunch of videos to find what I am looking for...
Rather than be bothered by them, just be encouraged that there are believers out there who care enough about there brothers and sisters in Christ to come up with stuff like this. I don't think being bothered by GodTube is a good use of your time.
I definitely agree that we as Christians need to be willing to get uncomfortable. We can't expect people to meet us where we are, we need to go to them.
I just don't think GodTube is promoting our "comfortable Christian ghetto".
Boy I just love anonymous comments. Maybe I shouldn't allow them. Anyone should be able to say what they think and allow a conversation to happen. I'm not questioning Dallas being a good school. I think they have a bad reputation of being egotistical and thinking they are the best. Maybe they are...I don't know. None of those movements before took a secular idea and made it sacred and I think partially God Tube has done that.

Tyler, I'm a web developer for DTS as well as a student finishing up a ThM. (By the way, my wife is from Roseburg, and I almost went to Western just to be in Oregon for seminary - lucky you!)
Anyway, Wyatt is a part time student so I don't think a lot of students know him, but conversations on campus about the site are well reflected in the comments already here: some are glad it's there, some don't like the sacred/secular Christianizing of things, others questions the commericalization factor and so on. The whole "Christ and Culture" question is still hard to answer, huh?
